Cantus

Now in its 31st season, the “engaging” (New Yorker) low-voice ensemble Cantus is widely celebrated for its warmth, blend, and innovative programming. The Washington Post praises its “exalting finesse” and “expressive power,” while the Philadelphia Inquirer calls the group “exquisite.”

As one of the nation’s few full-time vocal ensembles, Cantus works without a conductor, rehearsing and performing as chamber musicians to create programs that explore shared human experiences. The ensemble tours nationally and internationally, with performances at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and Tanglewood, and streams all home concerts to audiences in all 50 states and 16 countries.

Cantus records on the UK-based Signum Classics label and actively commissions new works while championing rarely performed repertoire. Dedicated to education, Cantus engages over 5,000 students annually through workshops, residencies, and its award-winning high school mentorship program, inspiring the next generation of singers and composers.
