This year's recipient of the Dale Warland Singers Commission Grant, is member chorus Resonance Ensemble. Resonance Ensemble will be collaborating with composer, Caroline Shaw, on a new contemporary choral commission to be performed by the treble singers of Resonance.

This new commission builds on composer Caroline Shaw's early a cappella work for treble choir, so quietly, which explored a young woman beginning to acknowledge her desire to speak up. The new work will explore an adult woman's more seasoned perspective on leadership — what it feels like to have a voice, to affirm one's power, and to find strength in community. Resonance Ensemble has multiple performances planned across Oregon during the 2027–28 season, workshops with Portland Public Schools students, and a recording intended to bring this music to choruses worldwide.
Resonance Ensemble is a professional chorus that was founded 17 years ago in Portland. It prioritizes collaborative and innovative performances and is known for concerts that integrate spoken word, film, and multimedia to create experiences that go beyond the traditional choral performance. Under the leadership of its Artistic Director Dr. Katherine FitzGibbon, the ensemble has commissioned and premiered more than twenty new works in the past decade. Resonance Ensemble believes that music can drive meaningful social change, and works alongside community organizations such as Bethel A.M.E. Church, BRAVO Youth Orchestras, PRIDE Northwest, and the Oregon Remembrance Project to bring music directly into Portland's community, spotlight underrepresented artists, and inspire new conversations and ideas.
Pulitzer Prize winner and multiple Grammy Award recipient Caroline Shaw is a composer, singer, violinist, and producer who is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of choral and vocal music. Her compositions include contemporary classical, pop, electronics, and multimedia. She has a history and love for collaborative work and is well known for her work with A Roomful of Teeth and So Percussion. Since relocating to Portland, Shaw has built a strong artistic partnership with Resonance Ensemble.
