SPONSORED CONTENT CREATED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CHORUS AMERICA
Chorus America nurtures vibrant singing communities and works to ensure that the choral arts flourish across generations. As part of our dedication to continual learning, we celebrate partners within our field that foster artistic, administrative, and personal development.
University choral programs serve as architects of the choral landscape's future. Higher education in choral music offers rigorous musical training to tomorrow’s conductors and singers while supporting the comprehensive development of well-rounded artists.
The universities featured in our 2025 University Choral Program Spotlight represent member institutions and program directors that understand the complex real-world demands of running a nonprofit choral organization. Through their mindful approach, these programs equip leaders to navigate the dynamic challenges and opportunities facing today's choruses.
The Harvard Choruses—America’s oldest collegiate choral program—brings together nearly 400 singers in eight ensembles united by a mission to sustain and advance choral music education and practice. As both courses and nonprofit organizations, the choruses cultivate leadership, artistry, and service, advancing a living tradition of excellence, creativity, and enduring community.
Since its 1877 founding, Jackson State University has been a proud HBCU, challenging minds and changing lives. The esteemed JSU Chorale earned two 2025 Sound Award nominations: University Choir of the Year and Music Educator of the Year (Dr. Harry Cecil), and has opened for gospel legends Marvin Sapp, Deitrick Haddon, and John P. Kee. Nationally recognized faculty lead the Department of Music’s undergraduate and advanced degrees in choral music education.
Discover McGill University’s Schulich School of Music—#1 in Canada, #5 in North America—in vibrant Montréal, one of the world’s best cities for students. Led by Dr. Jean-Sébastien Vallée, our graduate choral programs blend excellence, inclusivity, scholarship, and artistry, offering a world-class education that forms complete choral artists and visionary leaders ready to shape the global stage.
The Choral Conducting program at The Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University offers forward-thinking instruction and hands-on training in conducting technique and leadership of varied vocal and vocal-instrumental ensembles. Led by Director of Choral Studies Beth Willer, Peabody now offers MM, DMA, and GPD degrees preparing conductors to engage diverse repertoire, collaborate with living composers, and lead today’s choral communities.
The Choral Area of the School of Music at Illinois pursues two parallel missions: performing beautiful choral music and mentoring tomorrow’s choral leaders. The graduate program in choral conducting offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to help students grow as artists and scholars. Highlights include generous tuition and healthcare plans, significant podium time with annual choral-orchestral collaborations, and a 3-semester/1-year MM designed for educators.
Singers at the University of Iowa perform everything from choral/orchestral masterworks to new commissions. As one of the nation’s top graduate choral programs, we offer MA and DMA degrees blending performance and scholarship. Students study conducting & choral literature, receive generous podium time with UI ensembles, and work with professional ensembles-in-residence. Graduate assistantships provide full tuition, a stipend, and healthcare.
